Week 3: Larry Ferlazzo’s Websites of the Day

I’m sure all teachers will hear this in their lifetime, “When are we ever going to use this in real life, Mr(s). _____?!” Making content relevant, interesting, applicable, and current can be a challenge for many contents and grade levels. However, Larry Ferlazzo is making our life a little easier. This is a fantastic resource for particularly English teachers, but other contents would find this useful, too. Larry posted a rather overwhelming lists of websites students and teachers can use in order to write to a specific, direct and most importantly authentic audience.  (I’m bookmarking it!) Learning how to write to a specific audience is such an important skill to teach your students, but when they know you’re the only one reading it, sometimes their work can slide. However, now we have a partial solution to that problem! He has listed numerous websites where students can click on one, perform the appropriate task on the website, and have other real people in the real world read their writings and postings. Talk about real world application! Thanks, Larry!
